Introduction

The Internet is a widely available medium and an open playground for crime, Cyber-Crime. These crimes cover: "cyber-trespass (hacking - ranging from ethical hacking to information warfare), cyber-thefts (fraud, appropriation of intellectual property), cyber-obscenities (pornography, sex-trade), cyber-violence (stalking, hate-speech, hate mail; hate speech through simple messaging services (SMS or texting)) 2".

Prevention is Better than Cure!

There are many Internet Safety Groups, Organisations, and Research Groups that are there to assist victims of Cyber-Crime and research the effects and how best to combat it. There are specific crime groups aiming at a certain type of crime. However, there is insufficient being done to combat the threat of Cyber-Crime in all its guises. OFSEF is working towards the ideal of Prevention is Better than Cure to make the Internet a safer place for all. OFSEF believes that if all the Internet Safety Groups, Organisations and Research Groups start to stand united, working to a common goal, on a global front, then Cyber-Crime can be combated.

For Evil To Flourish, Good Men Do Nothing

It was once said, that for evil to flourish, good men must stand by and do nothing... well good men are standing by and doing nothing. The measure of a man is determined by the integrity of his word. OFSEF believe that the members of the afore-mentioned groups and organisations should stand up and unite and be a global front against global crime. The Register had an article titled "Cyber-Crime justifies world government.3" The Internet has created a global village or community, and therefore needs global governance.

Many claim to combat Cyber-Crime, but OFSEF have contacted several groups with the desire to unite them, but they are unwilling to respond. OFSEF hope that issues like these will be overcome in the near future.

The Internet is a new jurisdiction4, and there is the constant discussion5 on the governance of it6. It has grown rapidly, and is now unwieldly.... OFSEF believe that drastic legislation should be introduced to govern the Internet. OFSEF want to be instrumental in establishing this Governance, bringing protection to the innocent and justice to the lawless. Too many use the terminology that it is only internet, it is not real... and this is a fallacy... It involves real people, with real emotions, and real lives, and therefore it is real... Cyber-Crime is a Global Epidemic... and it will take people of sound mind and judgement, and people of integrity, to be stand united to bring governance to the Internet.

Behind the Scenes

OFSEF is a young organisation, and its goal is to improve and bring better services to the individuals that make use of the Internet. OFSEF aims to do this by working to unite all the various Internet Safety Groups and other such Organisations, or institutions to fight Cyber-Crime on firstly a national basis, but ultimately on a global basis.
